9th Annual Old-Time Fiddler's Convention in Happy Valley, NC
Labor Day weekend each year visitors pay homage to the legends and stories of the Yadkin River Valley at the
Historic Happy Valley Old-time Fiddlers' Convention.
The 2013 convention will take place, August 30 - September 1, on the Jones Farm,
northeast of Lenoir on N.C. Scenic Byway 268 along the banks of the beautiful Yadkin River.
Resting in the foothills of the Appalachians in Western North Carolina, the Yadkin Valley is rich in music and history. Just east of the convention site is the place where Daniel Boone made his home in the 1750s.
Boone hunted and explored the valley and beyond for years before heading west through the Cumberland Gap. The convention site itself is next to the resting place of Laura Foster who was
immortalized in the famous song "Tom Dooley", first recorded by G.B. Grayson in 1929. Descendants of the Dula and Foster families still attend the Fiddlers Convention each year.
